Welcome!
Textiles that are functional, basic in design, vibrant in color, and have a distinctive texture is the mission of the Summer/Winter Studio.
Located on the southern shore of Lake Superior in Northern Wisconsin, handweaver Karen Monson - Thompson creates fine heirloom quality textiles for either the traditional or contemporary home.
Coverlets and table runners are created in the reversible historic Summer & Winter weave structure using hand-spun and dyed wool yarns over multiple shades of cotton threads. One-of-a-kind designs are inspired by old snowball and pinetree coverlets of the 19th Century and Prairie and Mission styles of the early 20th Century.
A line of cotton table linens including towels, napkins, and placemats are also woven by the Summer/Winter Studio.
You can customize your order to match your interior with a wide variety of designs and color choices. Some of the best ideas have come from customers of the Summer/Winter Studio! Contact for more information.
Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful...

August 2010
Well, July was so busy, I didn't get a chance to update so on to August...
The Park Point Art Fair, and Art at St. Kate's are over. Thanks to all who stopped by, and purchased. Moving on, next up is Art on the Rocks in Marquette, MI, and then to one of my favorite shows - Art Fair at the Winery, at Forestedge Winery in LaPorte, MN. Check out the show schedule page for the dates.
Hope to see you there!
The new loom is up and running. If you haven't seen them, there are pictures of the loom assembly on facebook. Some of the new pieces that were woven on it so far are now on display at Ripple River Gallery in Deerwood, MN until August 15th. The new work has been met with great success, and I'm anxious to get some other designs out of my head and on to the loom. Should have more new work for the upcoming fall shows.
Off to Michigan the first week of August to visit family, and take in the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village museum complex. Hoping to see the jacquard loom in action in the Village. Then returning to Superior, and back to the looms to get ready for the fall (already!) show season.
Hope your summer is going well, and hope to see you at a show very soon!
